also put in rights of entitlement -weiill i be able to ...... and check it all with mem and arts and cttee etc Who? What? Where? How? When? Why? How much? Planning law? Where will the land be? That will be dependant on many things: What land is up for sale, at the time when there is sufficient funds to buy. Environmental conditions of these areas. Planning permission, precedents and attitudes of local councils, in these areas. It will hopefully be: Somewhere beautiful, Somewhere where a sustainable lifestyle would be possible, Somewhere with some kind of farm building to make planning applications easier for further shelters. Somewhere that has areas of established broadleaf woodland and maybe plantation woodland included. Somewhere that is secluded enough for the community and visitors to live as they would wish to.
Will it be one large piece of land or smaller pieces around the country, so that we could travel between them? This could be one large piece of land or several pieces of land, this will depend on how many investors come in, money available, and on the wishes of the people. We are looking to acquire upwards of 100 acres of rural farmland and woodlands with existing buildings to become Land Roots sustainable settlements, in several regions of the country. See land Who doe's Land Roots bank with? We will bank with Triodos, they’re really Eco-friendly and they invest in ventures like this, so we could raise a mortgage before we have all of the purchase cost of the land, in that way when the right piece of land comes up, we can be ready! When will this happen? As soon as we make it happen, invest in the land collective and sell the idea to your friends and loved ones, word of mouth is the best way, lets grow it! Who would YOU love to offer this opportunity to, who do you want to walk with on the land that you co-own? How much does it cost? How can I pay? See Ethical Investment How much investment do you need? The more we have the more land we can buy. Who will decide where to buy the land? Put appropriate link in What would people do there? Chill out, enjoy the company of your fellow campers, walk in the woods, play with kids, lounge around in hammocks. But if you wanted a little more action, see Gatherings, Workshops and retreats, Education... What if we all want to come at the same time? There may need to be a booking system, if this problem arises, however at seasonal celebrations, and in exceptional circumstances (like a big build push, or harvest time) it is hoped that with a large enough piece of land, we could accommodate everyone who wished to be there. When I invest, what am I entitled to? See Rights Of Entitlement. How long would or could people stay? Some people will live and work there on a full time basis, see Land based group/housing/workers co-op. Others who have particular skills to share, e.g. workshop leaders may wish to stay for several weeks or months, to run workshops etc. However many others would wish it to be a place to relax, and learn skills in the workshops, and this could be for up to a 4 weeks per year, taken together or in shorter spells, but we hope that we could be flexible enough to work with you for what you need. We would aim to say Yes as far as possible to any reasonable request. But we do intend to work within the planning law. See Land Roots Gatherings Where will people stay when they are there? At the summer gatherings people will camp. At other times of the year, during courses or workshops hopefully we will have bunk houses - and as time goes on, in the structures that we build together. This Eco-build will form part of training course / workshops, and we will work and learn together to create amazing and unique shelters. See Shelters. Could I build my own earth shelter, and return to it again and again and know that it was looked after in the meantime? Most, but not all, of the shelters that are built on the land would be communal buildings. Will I be able to lease some of the land for sustainable livelihood-and take my own chances with the planning? Possibly! What about bringing children? Yes, most definitely, but they will be the responsibility of their parents. Will there be things for the kids to do? As soon as we and you can make them play areas would be built, and at certain events there will be eco-play and eco-make and eco-build activities for the children and there always trees to climb. However there may be kid free zones so that people can concentrate and get on with stuff. Do kids need to have a share? Kids up to 15 are free? if with a parent or guardian, we would ask that you encourage older ones to do a share of the chores, litter picking, there's always things to do. From 16 - 18 half Eco-Share, full Eco-Share at 18? Will there be first aid? We will be looking for first aiders to be permanent members of the team. Will there be Eco-toilets? and showers? and renewable electricity? We will endeavour to have basic facilities – however these will take time to establish – the more money we have invested and the more people that help the better. Who would clean the toilets? Job rota, or work share, maybe you? Isn’t this all a pipe dream? It will be if we don’t make it happen, all you have to do is Get involved, if many people do, then it’s not a pipe dream, cos we’ll have tons of money to buy land! Why are you doing this? For me, this is a long held dream that I have been thinking about, researching on and planning for many years. Simply, I believe that living on the land and in community is the best way to live a happy and fulfilling life, and that if we collectively own land, we can be sure that at least this piece of the earth will remain safe from big developers, and mad agricultural policy, and is being looked after in a sustainable way. So that ourselves and our children will have somewhere to appreciate and to be, in the future. What if I can’t afford £250? How about £5 per week on direct debit for 1 year, and its paid ! If you wanna be there, then we want you there, and we’ll try to find a way to enable you to be, see “work shares” or wwwofing How will the £250 will be spent? See Ethical Investment What's the real cost per day? Based on YOU staying on the land for 28 days out of the year. If you only went for one year = £8.09 per day. Over five years = £1.78 per day. Over fifteen years = 59p per day. Over twenty five years = 44p per day - Not bad for a place in the country ! Can I buy multiple Roots? There are 13 x 28 days in a whole year. (+1 day) 1 share = £250 for 28 days per year i.e. 1 lunar month 2 shares = £500 for 56 days per year 2 lunar month 3 shares = £750 for 84 days per year 3 lunar month 4 shares = £1000 for 112 days per year 4 lunar month 5 shares = £1250 for 140 days per year 5 lunar month 6 shares = £1500 for 168 days per year 6 lunar month 7 shares = £1750 for 196 days per year 7 lunar month 8 shares = £2000 for 224 days per year 8 lunar month 9 shares = £2250 for 252 days per year 9 lunar month 10 shares = £2500 for 280 days per year 10 lunar month 11 shares = £2750 for 308 days per year 11 lunar month 12 shares = £3000 for 336 days per year 12 lunar months 13 shares = £3250 for 364 days per year 13 lunar months The whole years cycle of the ‘good life’ for just £3250 In this way, if a person eventually wished to travel round the Land Roots sustainable settlements through the whole year, or part thereof, then they could buy up to 13 Roots, and we would still be within the planning law. What is the 28 day rule? The amount of days you can stay on the land before being moved on in the eyes of the Law. Its about ‘working creatively within the law of the land’, (See the 28 day rule. And see legal issues relating to land rights.) Legal stuff and planning law? We will work with specialised land rights lawyers to answer questions and to help us to plan the best way forward for this venture. Check ‘This Land Is Ours’ on the web if you want to find out more. |
