Growing Food and other resources

Growing plenty of good wholesome food - is a high priority for us and there will be lots of opportunities for our Root Members and their families and friends to get involved with life on the farm, including the food growing,  through working weekends, training courses and seasonal events throughout the year.

Bring the kids - What better way to get your kids involved and keep them acitve and healthy in the holidays than to be out on the farm, learning how to grow your own fruit and vegetables and looking after the animals with the other kids.

Veg Box Schemes - We plan to work alongside the Soil Association to set up Community Supported Agriculture Schemes that our Root Members can join in with to ensure a supply of good healthy food throughout the year !

Learn about Permaculture - We will run Permaculture courses to give people the skills and confidence to become more self-reliant and seek creative solutions to problems on a local and global scale.

Space for you to Grow - Where appropriate there will be space set aside for allotments for some of our Root Members who live very local to the land and also a few acres on each of the sites which will be set aside for some Root Members to lease for their own sustainable enterprises.

More Good Reasons to Get Involved - In the UK, like the rest of the world, there is a looming Food Security Crisis - there needs to be a shift in our relationship with the food system from passive consumers to responsible citizens.

Land Roots aims to play its part in averting this crisis by bringing more farmland into local co-operative sustainable agriculture and creating a more participatory community based food system by:

  • Utilizing much of the Land Roots land for organic farming.
  • Enhancing local sustainable food production ensuring local people and our Root Members and their families have access to safe, reasonably priced food.
  • Helping to revitalise the local community by working co-operatively to build direct links between producers and consumers.
  • Reducing food miles and increasing environmental protection of the land.
  • Enabling organic growers to earn a livelihood.

Set up your own local growing land - by bringing your community together in a Land Roots Collective Land Action Network - CLAN.

Other Resources -There are many other resources that we could utilize or produce from the land including:

  • straw for straw bale building and insulation
  • wood and willow for building and crafts
  • Rain water for drinking and washing
  • Hemp - for food, building, clothing, insulation...the list is endless with this amazing crop...
